Price Guide?

There is an old saying that goes “Price is what the fools pay”. This is especially true for classic cars. You simply can’t compare apples and oranges and everything depends on condition, history and rarity of a classic car. But as a starting to understand the marked there are price guides arround and I just wondered what they show for Cadillac Eldos from 1953 to 1966 and how they develop over time. So here is my table of price data that I have collected from the Nada Price Guide for Cadillac Eldorado Convertibles from 1953 to 1966 (without AC as captured on June 2006). Price is shown in US$.

Year Low Average High
1953 38950 60375 94450
1954 21600 37850 63800
1955 22100 38800 66000
1956 22550 41050 63250
1957 27100 45550 75000
1958 27100 45550 75000
1959 27725 55000 89250
1960 18400 39375 64475
1961 13050 28900 48900
1962 12450 27600 41900
1963 13150 25800 39600
1964 12450 24400 37300
1965 11550 22700 35300
1966 9950 19500 30300

Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable “as-is”.

Some of the vehicles in this publication could be considered “Daily Drivers” and are not valued as a classic vehicle. When determining a value for a daily driver, it is recommended that the subscriber use the low retail value.
Note: This value does not represent a “parts car”.

Average Retail Value
This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A “20-footer”.

High Retail Value
This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a “100 Point” or “# 1″ vehicle *.

* “100 Point” or “# 1″ vehicle is not driven. It would generally be in a museum or transported in an enclosed trailer to concourse judging and car shows. This type of car would be stored in a climate-regulated facility.
SPECIAL NOTE: VEHICLES WITH FACTORY DOCUMENTATION
When assessing value to special interest vehicles, those having day-one factory documentation could be worth more than our listed high-end value. This authentic record could increase market value by as much as 10% to 40%.

Hello , I am located in the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. I am considering purchasing a 1932 Cadillac LaSalle Sedan. It is in fine show condition and wanted to know what is a fair price? I onwned a 32 Sedan like this a few years ago but it was in only fair condition. It sold for $40K. The one I am considering was a former Pebble Beach Winner. We have not yet discussed the price. The gent that is selling it wants me to come and sit down with him to discuss after I inspect it in person. I am ready to make the flight to see and inspect, but would like to have some idea of a fair price to offer. I feel he wants me to purchase , because I sent pictures of the last Caddy and he does not want it to go to a Museum or to someone that just want to move it fast to make some money. Any assistance would be greatly appriciated. Thanks and Best Regards….Bruce
