1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville for sale

I own this numbers matching 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville since 1991. I bought her as a straight, solid and rust free classic car. I’m first owner in Germany and have put many time, love, work and money into this beauty to bring her in even better condition. She will be “finished” this summer 2009. I put her up for sale now because I want to switch to a 1958 convertible.

I’ve created a 3 minute slideshow and put it on YouTube to draw some additional attention – hope you enjoy:

You can find photos at my flickr set and there are more than 400 detailed high resolution photos with descriptions and comments at the restoration set.

Cadillac Sabre wheels – will they fit on your model year?

Sabre wheels were standard on Eldorados from 1955 to 1958 and optional on other models. These are not wheel covers, but actual wheels/rims. In my understanding sabre wheel are the successor for the spoke wheel rims that were used on eldos before 1955. Today they are highly desired amoung Cadillac collectors. They allow to add dignity to your classic cadillac (1955 to 1958) without to losing authenticity even if it’s not an eldo.
But watch out to buy the correct sabre wheels for your modell year. Read on for further information that lists the differences amount the production years. Read the rest of this entry »

1956 Cadillac power trunk lid pull down

I repaired the electronic power trunk lid pulldown. Before it was put back into the car, the final test should make clear that the switches are working good and that no power is on the motor, when in closed or released position.
This video shows how it operates – the upper switch (used with the finger to make the test) is sensing if the lid was snaped in. The lower switch (connected to the voltometer) is sensing the position of the lift. If the lift is up (lid open) the switch is pressed down. If the lift is down (lid closed), the switch is pulled up. Both switches together are the "brain" of this device… Great ! And remember – this was 1956!

Pitman arm sealing kit 1958/1957 will interchange to 1956?

I’m searching for a pitman arm sealing kit for my 1956 Cadillac Coupe deVille.

I requested some well known parts sources (usa part supply, kanter) but they told me that they can offer only complete rebuilded steering boxes to me. My steering box is okay (I bought a rebuilded box in 1999) – only the pitmanarm seal is leaking now so I don’t want to purchase a rebuilded box again.

Word is, that there is no pitman arm sealing kit availalbe for 1956! Only sealing kits that were available are for the years 1957/1958. So I want to ask if someone knows if they will fit for 1956.

I can’t imagine that there is not kit availalbe for 1956 – because the guys neet to have one, if they offer me a rebuilded one.

Taken from my master part book (covering 56 to 60) I would say it’s
group no 18.0335 = Kit, Seal, pitman Shaft (Includes RetainerRing, seal and Washer)

The groupnumber ist the same for 56-60 = 18.0335

For the year 1956 it says partno: 568 3798
But for 57-60 it is a different partnumber: 568 5583

Exploded views let me assume that the kit for 1957/58 has just one part more but I don’t know if the 57/58 kit is compatible to 1956 and will fit there.

Hope anyone can help with this very specific question. Or did anyone knows a parts source that offers kits for 1956?

GM Motorama Dream Car – 1956 Eldorado Brougham Town Car

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a truly unique, one of a kind General Motors Motorama Dream Car.

The car was built with no expense spared, including 24K gold plating in the rear compartment and no expense spared in the meticulous restoration. It is a fiberglass body, built on a 129.5″ wheelbase; 55.5″ high and 219.9″ long. This vehicle never had an engine and is the same way today.

This Dream Car has been appraised by two separate companies, one at over $900,000.

It was the feature car, on a turntable inside the banquet hall, at Cadillac’s 100th Anniversary event in Dearborn, Michigan in 2002. This is one of GM’s most famous and most photographed Dream Cars. This automobile is like stepping back in time to the 1956 Waldorf Astoria Show in NYC or the Paris Exhibition. It is perfect in every detail.
